Agentic AI Foundation
The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) is a directed fund under the Linux Foundation, formed on December 9, 2025 to give open agentic AI projects a neutral home.1 It was co-founded by Anthropic, Block and OpenAI, which contributed its three founding projects: Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), Block’s goose agent framework and OpenAI’s AGENTS.md convention for instructing coding agents.12 Its founding platinum members were Amazon Web Services, Anthropic, Block, Bloomberg, Cloudflare, Google, Microsoft and OpenAI.1 Anthropic said MCP’s governance model would stay unchanged, with the project’s maintainers continuing to run it.2
Its membership grew to 146 organizations by February 24, 2026, when it named David Nalley of AWS as governing board chair,3 and to 247 by August 13, 2026, with new members including Alibaba, Visa and Wells Fargo; that announcement quotes Mazin Gilbert as the foundation’s executive director.4 Google’s Agent2Agent Protocol (A2A), until then a separate Linux Foundation project, joined as a hosted project on August 17, 2026.5 As of October 19, 2026, the AAIF’s projects page lists six projects: MCP, goose, AGENTS.md, agentgateway, A2A and Agent Router.6
Beyond the projects, the AAIF runs working groups on agent reliability, agentic commerce, governance and regulatory mapping, agent identity and trust, observability and security,7 areas covered on MetaPrompt in How the Model Context Protocol Works and the agent identity and trust standards tracker.
