Moonshot AI is an AI company founded in spring 2023 and based in Beijing, at 76 Zhichun Road in Haidian District.¹ It launched its Kimi assistant in October 2023, saying it pioneered "the 200k-word context window," and in July 2025 released and open-sourced Kimi K2, which it calls its trillion-parameter LLM.¹ The K2 model card lists 1 trillion total parameters with 32 billion activated in a mixture-of-experts design.² Moonshot released Kimi K2.6 on April 20, 2026 and Kimi K3 on July 16, 2026.³ It describes K3 as a 2.8-trillion-parameter model with native vision and a 1-million-token context window, and as "the world's first open 3T-class model."⁴ It sells the models through the Kimi API Platform and publishes weights under its moonshotai account on Hugging Face.⁵⁶

In SWE-bench Verified, Pro and What Replaced Them: By the Numbers, Kimi K2.5 resolves 70.8% of SWE-bench Verified tasks in the shared mini-SWE-agent v2.0.0 harness, at an average cost of $0.15 per task, in a run dated February 17, 2026.⁷ On the Kimi API Platform, K3 lists $3.00 per 1M input tokens (cache miss) and $15.00 per 1M output tokens, and K2.6 lists $0.95 and $4.00; they are the two Moonshot rows in Cheapest LLM APIs per 1M Output Tokens.⁵ In Chinese Open-Weight Models: Downloads, Derivatives and Token Share, the Kimi-K3 repo logged 1,117,095 downloads in the 30 days to October 13, 2026 and has 11,707 likes, the most of any repo in that post's table. Its Kimi K3 License allows MIT-style use but requires a separate agreement before commercial use by any Model-as-a-Service operator whose revenue, with its affiliates, exceeds $20 million over 12 months.⁸
